NANTUCKET AUGUST  7-11th, 2008

A number of Scouts and parents have asked about returning to Nantucket in 2008.

I personally would love to return as the place was very nice and there are still new places to explore.

Plan for $225 per person as a high estimate since camp fees have increased and we can expect ferry prices to increase and to cover kayak rental or other sight seeing costs.

HIGH LEVEL PLAN.

Thursday, August 7th – 7:00 AM Leave Oakland from OLPH  and drive to Hyannis Port.

Catch the 1 PM ferry to Nantucket, rent bikes if needed, walk or ride 3 miles to camp.

Check into camp, setup, explore the place.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday – Organized outings in the morning as a group, afternoons to do what you like similar to what we did last trip.  Read my trip report on the web site if you want to see what we did last time.

Monday, August 11th – Pack up and catch the ferry back to Hyannis Port, pick up cars in parking lot, head for home arriving by about 6:00 PM.

SIBLINGS:  Please keep in mind that this is first and foremost a Scouting trip.  Therefore, we will not sacrifice Scouting activities at the expense of siblings.  Siblings are welcome but they are the TOTAL RESPONSIBILITY of the parents.  Siblings must be at least entering the third grade in September.  There will be considerable biking on the island to get from place to place and to the beach.  If you think your child has the stamina to ride their bike for a while, they are welcome.  Last year, the Scouts who were entering the 6th grade had no problem keeping up with the pace.  We can discuss individuals if you want.

WOMEN WELCOME: Last year Lisa W. enjoyed the trip with us.  Other campsite had about a dozen women and young ladies.  The camp has modern bathrooms with mirrors, electricity, flush toilets, and hot showers.

FOOD:  Last year Lisa W. and Jim F. planned the menu and bought all the food in Oakland.  We only had to buy milk and clam chowder on Nantucket saving us a lot of money.  In the summer we will need two more volunteers to plan the menu and shop for the food.

NEXT STEPS:

March 6 at 7:30 – 8:00 meeting to present the trip to interested families.

March 22 RSVP’s and deposits are due.  We need at least 15 participants to make the trip viable.  You must bring your Scout son along to go on this trip.  We need to pay for the ferry service to hold our reservation.
