Friday: June 6-7-8 2008   Lake Tiorati at Harriman State Park, NY

 

Activity:

This weekend is tent camping at Lake Tiorati in Harriman State Park in New York.

 

6:30 PM - Meet at OLPH and carpool up to Cedar Point campsite on Lake Tiorati in Harriman State Park about 40 minutes away.   Set up camp where the troop has been twice before on the western shore of Lake Tiorati.

Saturday:

 

Morning – Late comers arrive.

 

About 9:00 AM – Day hike on the Appalachian Trail for a few miles.   Lunch on the trail.

Afternoon – Exploring camp, fishing, swimming, boating (if you bring your boat) working on advancement. 

Supper in Camp.

Sunday Morning:

Breakfast in camp.

Pack up and be on the road by 9:30 AM.  

Backpacking Option:

Scouts wishing to camp overnight Saturday night on the Appalachian Trail can backpack on Saturday and stay on the trail overnight and hike out to the parking lot on Sunday morning.   Scouts wishing to do this option need to have 2 adults with them.

Swimming:

Tiorati Beach hours are 9AM to 6:30PM.  The beach and showers are available to use by the campers following the buddy system.

Parking:

Only 2 vehicles can be parked at the campsite with the other vehicles parked down the road at Tirorati lot down the road for $7.

Bring:

Personal gear including knife, fork, spoon, cup, bowl and/or plate.   Swimming gear and towel is optional.

Cost:

$15 Per person for the camping fee, food

Cooking/Food:

·        We will cook and eat in three patrols:

o       Patrol #1 – 10 to 12 Scouts

o       Patrol #2 – 10 to 12 Scouts

o       Patrol #3 – All the Adults and siblings.

·        The week before the trip Scouts will divided into 2 patrols.

·        Then, the ranking Patrol Leader will work with the patrol to plan their own menu, cook, and cleanup their own meals. 

·        We need an Adult to volunteer to plan the adult menu and buy the adult food.

·        Plan for Saturday breakfast, trail lunch, Saturday supper, and Sunday breakfast.

Siblings:  Webelos are welcome but remain the responsibility of their parents.

RSVP:  

By Wednesday, May 30th. 

This gives the Scouts time to plan the menu and make carpool arrangements.

Directions:

Route 287 north to Route 17 North to Sloatsburg.

Turn right at the traffic light onto 7 Lakes Drive

Follow 7 Lakes Drive north for about 7 Miles towards Tiorati Beach.

At the traffic circle, take the second right staying on 7 Lakes Drive for 2.4 miles.

You will pass Lake Askoti on the right. 

After Lake Askoti, you will come to Lake Tiorati on your right. 

The Cedar Pond Campsite is on your right just before Tiorati Beach.

Drop off your gear at the campsite then park at Tiorati Beach and walk back to the campsite.

Total Distance 23 miles about 38 minutes.
