Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 49′s website. Our troop has been chartered by Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, through the Boy Scouts of America since 1963. For nearly fifty years, we’ve been making the difference in the lives of the youth of Oakland and nearby communities.

If you are here for the first time… Welcome! If you are looking for information about joining the troop, please contact Scoutmaster Lynda Angus at 201-394-6243 or at bsatroop49@hotmail.com

Summer is the time to be outside! What better way to honor that than by spending time with your fellow scouts for an entire week at Camp Turrell.
We are attending Week 3, from July 18-24. Any parents with questions about summer camp, I will have an information session on Thursday night during the Troop meeting on March 18th.

Troop 49 will be returning to our old stomping grounds at our council’s summer facility in Cuddybackville, NY. For those new to this camp, it is full of natural beauty and one off the BEST scout camp waterfronts I have ever seen. Sending your sons to Scout Camp gives them this great experience where they can enjoy the outdoors, work on their camping skills and earn many Merit Badges thorough programs and classes that are sometimes only available by attending a scout camp (e.g., swimming, boating and shooting activities.) Younger scouts also have greater opportunity to learn from older scouts in the troop.

As previously mentioned, fees went up this year, but the Troop was able to lock in last year’s rates with our early deposit. The Early Bird rate is $390/scout (including Troop subsidy). Please have payments into Mrs. Kolenut by APRIL 12th, so we can make our groups payments and account for the Troop subsidy.

I know everyone is excited to start choosing and signing up for Merit Badges, however the system is not up and running yet. You CAN look over this year’s offerings along with the schedule to see what you would like to be prepared to do. Please keep in mind you CANNOT make it from a shooting sport to the waterfront in the 10 minute time between classes (or the other way around), so plan accordingly.

Lastly, updated medical forms will need to be completed, if you have not already done so:

I look forward to a great time with all the boys. We could always use a few extra adult hands, so consider signing up too. We will follow up with adult COVID guidance as it becomes available.
