We will travel to the “Battleship Cove” at 5 Water Street in Fall River, Massachusetts, which is home to five National Historic Landmark vessels including the Battleship “USS Massachusetts”, the Destroyer “USS Joseph P. Kennedy”, the submarine “USS Lionfish”, PT Boats “617” and “796”, and the Russian ship “Hiddensee”.  Everyone will get to sleep in the same authentic bunks that the sailors slept in; learn how the sailors lived and worked on board; participate in special activities (knot-tying, Storytelling, Morse Code); gather round to watch an action-packed feature film; “mingle” with veterans who made history; and have a full dinner and breakfast in the battleship’s Wardroom.   You can get more information at www.battleshipcove.org.  We plan on gathering early Saturday morning (November 14th) at OLPH, driving up, staying overnight and returning on Sunday (November 15th).  There are other museums to visit and people can leave as early or late as they want on Sunday (we just have to have our gear off of the battleship by 10:30 am on Sunday morning).  The cost is $65.00 per person.  With the troop subsidy, it will end up being $30 per scout (and $65 per adult).  We are also going try and work in a visit to the Submarine Force Museum in Groton, Connecticut on the way up or on the way back.  This is the home of the historic ship “Nautilus”, the world’s first nuclear Submarine.  The cost of this would be separate and in addition to the cost of Battleship Cove.  We have 35 seats reserved.  After that it is only available if there are more spots available on the ship.  If you want to go…sign up quickly!  Payment has to be sent out by October 30th.  If there are any questions, please email me cjmellone@gmail.com or call me at 201-755-2627.

Back by popular demand, Troop 49 will be running an awesome ski trip to OKEMO Mountain Resort in the ski capital of the Northeast, Vermont!! (less than 4 hours from Oakland).

PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY!

Due to operational changes at the Hostel we stayed at last year, we will be renting a house in Ludlow VT this year. However, the rental requirements in the area required us to rent the house for 3 nights (Thurs, Friday and Saturday nights). We understand that these are school days but it will provide the flexibility for those who expressed an interest in the past to ski Friday, as well (technically 4 days of skiing are possible for you die hards).

Here is the link to the house rental http://www.vrbo.com/323538. As you’ll see in the rental photos, there is definitely plenty to do at the house after a full day of skiing and snowboarding. Life doesn’t get any better! For those interested in doing Snow Shoeing instead of skiing, the troop will have shoes available. Just let us know before the trip.

Due to the sleep accommodation limitations at the house, a maximum of 25 people can stay at the house. Initially, we will be accepting sign-ups for sleeping at the house for Scouts only (23 Maximum). If there is still room after the initial sign-up period (which ends November 14th), family members will be accepted off a wait list. BUT DON’T WORRY! There is no limitation on the number of people who can attend this trip and we can all eat and hangout at the house. If there are insufficient sleeping arrangements at the House, there are sleeping accommodations available at the Homestyle Hostel we stayed at last year, as well as a Best Western. If you are interesting in booking a room at the Hostel or Best Western, contact Mr. Dugas
