Back by popular demand is the Demolition Derby Trip at Mountain Springs Arena, Shartlesville, PA.  This is the very last demo derby trip to be held, so come out and join the fun!

Who: Scouts / Parents

Weather Contingencies: Unless weather is severe, the trip will go as described … plan for rain or cold weather. In the event of severe weather forecast for Friday night the leaders reserve the option to depart early Saturday morning.

Campsite: 3402 Mountain Road, Hamburg, PA 19526

Behind Evan’s Grandpa’s home, back pasture at the base of the Blue Mountains.

 

Trip details:

April 26th: Gather at OLPH at 4:15 pm, lower parking lot,

Depart at 4:30 pm, Arrive at campsite 6:30/7:00 pm.

Please bring your dinner to eat in car or in camp.  Evening snack provided.

April 27th:  After Breakfast and packing our lunch, we will travel by car to the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for a 4 mile hike which has multiple lookout points (Weather Permitting).  If there is inclement weather, we will visit the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum and Cabela’s. Afterward, we will head back to camp where scouts can work on Advancement, MB opportunities, cooking, Totin’ Chip, Firem’n Chit and more.  At 6 pm, we will head over to the outdoor Demo Derby (rain or shine), the trip’s highlight!

 

April 28th: Grab n Go Breakfast, Clean and pack up camp, depart the campsite around 9 am and return around 11 am.

Gear:

  • Personal gear including water bottle, knife, fork, spoon, cup, bowl and/or plate, small day/string pack for hike, headlamp and flashlight, tent, sleeping bag
  • Hiking boots/shoes recommended as terrain on hike may be rocky
  • Cold/cool weather layered clothing/outerwear/sleeping clothes, hats, gloves, as temperature will be in the low 40’s at night/morning.  Derby is outside (no shorts) NOTE: Refer to Pathfinder website for cold weather tips :https://www.thepathfinders.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Cold-Weather-Comfort-and-Safety.pdf
  • Rain gear, hat, sunscreen, bug/tick spray
  • Optional binoculars

Cooking/Food:

  • Scouts will be split into patrols. Snack, Hot breakfast, cold lunch, hot dinner and grab ‘n go Breakfast
  • Plan for Friday Snack, Saturday Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Sunday Grab n go Breakfast.
  • THOSE THAT SIGN UP FOR COOKING WILL BE ASSIGNED ON A FIRST SIGN UP BASIS.  NUMBERS OF COOKS MAY NOT BE DECIDED UNTIL THE TRIP CLOSES.

Cost:

13 years to Adult $45

12 and under $35

 

The fee covers two nights tenting, admission to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary or Reading Railroad Heritage Museum (inclement weather), Demo Derby, snack Friday, 3 meals Saturday, breakfast Sunday, and the rental of a Porta Potty for our campsite.

 

Not Included: Spending money for purchases of Food/Drinks at the Demo Derby Concession stands, Cabela’s (inclement weather) and souvenirs.
